deeper than words
visual art journaling

Deeper Than Words is an opportunity to gather and tell your story through visual art journaling about things that are important to you right now. It’s a way to express, embrace, and process your days using the journal as your ‘soul’s kitchen.’

Visual Art Journaling is a process of noticing, responding, and tapping into your own inner wisdom and knowing.

    • It uses simple art materials, but it’s not about making a pretty picture or following a step-by-step tutorial.
    • It is about checking inside, listening and paying attention to those inner stirrings, that quiet voice guiding you, and then expressing yourself using an imagistic language of colour, shape, line, form and texture.
    • It’s about using words to dialogue and communicate with yourself about the imagery created as a way to integrate the visual, intuitive, feeling-side of your right brain with your logical, thought-centred left brain.
    • NO special skills or previous art experience are required.
    • This is a creative practice for self-care, guidance and healing – a gift you give yourself!

Results may bring surprising epiphanies, shifts in perception, prompts for action, and radical self-care!

As the poets and painters of centuries have tried to tell us, art is not about the expression of talent or the making of pretty things. It is about the preservation and containment of soul. It is about arresting life and making it available for contemplation. Art captures the eternal in the everyday, and it is the eternal that feeds soul - the whole world in a grain of sand.

I hope you will go out and let stories, that is life, happen to you, and that you will work with these stories...water them with your blood and tears and your laughter till they bloom, till you yourself burst into bloom.
