creAte cafe

an online creative community

CreAte Cafe is a community of women heARTists who gather for weekly art making and inspiration. We bring whatever creative projects we’re working on, whether that’s watercolour, book-making, art journaling, knitting, sketching, and so on.

Imagine…you’re sitting around a virtual table with a group of women, learning new techniques, being supported through the creative process, sharing laughter, and forming friendships along the way.

That’s what this group is about!

There’s a wonderful creative energy here that allows for open and courageous self-expression, where everyone feels seen and heard. All skill levels are welcome.

Come join us! Your spot is waiting and I can’t wait to create with you 🙂

A bit of history…

This art group, in its many iterations, has been active since August of 2014. I started it as a Meet-up group, meeting every 2nd week at a local coffee shop for art journaling and expressive art explorations. We soon outgrew that location, and when a new venue opened just 5 minutes from my home, I booked the large, centre table for our group. Every second Wednesday night, we would arrive with our art supplies and spend several hours together, playing, learning, and meeting other creative folks. Over time, a core group formed, many still active today. When Co-Vid kept us home, we shifted to a weekly format over Zoom from the comfort of our own studios. Our gatherings became a creative lifeline during forced isolation, and provided a new but equally fun and inspirational way for us to meet. Location, winter roads, or a slight cough were no longer barriers to attending, and we’ve been able to grow our circle because of it.

2024 marks 10 years of community, creativity and connection – thank you to everyone who has been a part of it! <3

Frequently Asked Questions

What will we do?

  • We open each week with a circle check-in: say hello, show what we’ve been working on or what we plan to do that evening;
  • We’ll spend the next hour or so around the virtual  table: sharing books, movies, travels, new art supplies, etc., or just listening and working quietly on our project;
  • The last 15-20 minutes are an opportunity for show and tell.

Is there a schedule, and what does it look like?

  • On the first and third week of the month, we’ll work on our own projects;
  • Week 2 is set aside for any demos or swaps and are always optional.
  • On the 4th week of the month, a theme or prompt is provided to jump-start your creativity.

What kind of swaps will we do?

  • Swaps include mail art, paper packs, ATC’s, glue-book pages, and more.

Will sessions be recorded?

  •  Sessions will not be recorded in order that everyone feels comfortable sharing their art and words in this virtual circle.

Where else can I share my art?

  •  Membership includes a private Facebook group; a place to share your art, process, and stay in touch with group members.
